Installation of electric heaters: regulations

Have you heard of a type of mandatory regulation in certain buildings? Whether the answer is yes or no, this reading is something you may be interested in!

Some buildings such as schools, hospitals and nursing homes require certain special measures in terms of heat conditioning, due to the sensitivity of their occupants to temperature changes or indoor pollution.

These buildings require certain conditions to be met to ensure the quality of life, well-being and hygiene of the people who are there.

The RITE (Regulation of Thermal Installations in Buildings) (Spanish regulation) is a measure that regulates, among others, the energy efficiency and safety requirements that must be met in certain heating installations on certain buildings.

Among others, heating installations must:

  •  Reduce the use of conventional energy, i.e. generated from non-renewable sources,
  • reduce the emission of gases and other pollution,
  • be able to manage consumption,
  • be designed to reduce accepted limits to accidents’ risks that cause harm to people or the environment.

In addition, it must:

  • have CE marking.

Surface limit on radiators

In counties such as Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, and according to the HGN (Heath Guidance Note), the temperature of the radiators should prevent users from burning. That is why this surface temperature should not exceed 43º.

This standard, which began in hospitals, has been instilled in other buildings such as schools, disabled services, or geriatrics, where burn accidents are less controlled.  This mandatory enforcement method is intended to protect all people inside from injury and burn as a result of contact with the surface.

At Farho, we wanted to apply this standard to our electric radiators by developing an exclusive emitter for this type of buildings or users.

What solution does FARHO propose?

The LST (Low Surface Temperature) heater is been designed to comply with this regulation and also be implemented in our schools, medical centers and nursing homes.  This safer heating solution  eliminates potential risks within certain population groups.
